Meeting for Exchange of Opinionson Environmental ActivitiesFPCO Method Recyclingwith Civic GroupsFP Corporation organized an opinion exchange meeting on the subjectofWorkingTowardBuildingaSustainableRecyclingSociety.? FP Corporation’s ContainerRecycling and Civic GroupsFP Corporation began on recycling used trays in 1990. Insteadof disposing of disposable food containers it produced as wasteafter use, it conducted horizontal recycling, in which it collects andrecycles the containers, and supplies the resulting Eco Trays to themarket to fulfill its extended producer responsibility. Its objectivewas to achieve domestic circulation of valuable resources.The collection of used trays began at six supermarkets in thecity of Fukuyama, home to FP Corporation, and in Osaka. We hadseveral major difficulties to overcome before putting our recyclingactivities on track. We asked retailers and consumers to cooperatein collection for recycling, but many responded that it was toocumbersome.However, the public had increasing interest in local wasteissues and global environmental issues. An increasing number ofthem began to support food container recycling. At that time, weenjoyed maximum cooperation in our recycling circulation fromconsumers and environmental groups that attended this opinionexchange meeting. United on some occasions and confrontingeach other with opinions on others, we took the first step towardthecommongoalofcreatingarecyclingsociety.? A Milestone and ResolutionToward Genuine RecyclingCirculationWith the help of many civic groups, FPCO Method Recyclingis now making good progress.
