SocietySato: Able-bodied employees not only playtogether, they also voluntarily help those with disabilitiesdress themselves before playing. They also strive toobtain a qualification for serving as a referee. Basically,I never force employees to take part. I take a stance ofencouraging them to do it if they find it interesting. There isno meaning to it if they are not enjoying themselves. Now Iam really pleased that we started floor hockey.Hosokawa: Quite a few companies regard employmentof disabled workers as an obligation. After hiring suchworkers, they tend to separate them from workplacesfor able-bodied workers. The barrier still exists. I see mymission as removing this barrier.The FP Corporation Group has a total of 15 floor hockey teams inYamagata, Ibaraki, Tokyo, Gifu, Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Kochi and Saga.? Toward creating an inclusive societyHosokawa: Until some time ago, it was commonpractice to assign intellectually disabled workers toplaces unnoticeable to others, isolating them fromsociety. However, they all have their own gifts, talents andpersonalities, and we want to create a society where theycan display these. In an effort to build an inclusive societythat enables those with disabilities to lead an uninhibitedlife, we have set up a nonprofit organization (NPO) calledYuuki no Tsubasa Inclusion 2015. (Yuuki no Tsubasa literallymeans“wings of courage.”)Sato: I would like to talk about our disabilityemployment activities. Some regard these as welfareactions, but we do not see them that way. This is a projectfor seeking profit. It would not last long if it was not. Weassign employees with disabilities to appropriate positionsand ensure that they work together with unimpaired staff,though their duties differ from those of the unimpaired.We're able to do this because of the support we get fromso many people.Hosokawa: A successful example like yours isencouraging to me. It is a good model for other companies.I also hope that you will continue floor hockey activities aswell.Sato: This year (2014), a nationwide floor hockeytournament will take place in Tokyo in October. Inspiredby your vigor, we are offering support for the organizationoffice.Hosokawa: We sincerely thank you for your voluntaryservices. I hope you will continue to take part in fashionshows and other events we organize.
