The FPCO Group is aware that making proper use of resources is an important environmental challenge, because existing resources are limited while more and more resources are required amid the expansion of business activities.
In addition, we believe that we must strive to make effective use of resources in accordance with the 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) concept rather than the one-way mass consumption of resources for business.
The FPCO Group will work intensively to reduce the consumption of resources in its products and services and positively expand and proceed with the FPCO Method Recycling business of recycling used food containers from general households into food containers for reuse.
We will endeavor to further reduce the amount of chemical substances and harmful waste produced, and strive to reduce and avoid pollution that leads to the contamination of the natural environment and to health hazards.
<Trends in Material Consumption>
FY2019 | FY2020 | FY2021 |
FY2022 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Plastics | 164,702 tons | 167,968 tons | 195,476 tons | 204,471 tons |
Other (such as additives) | 7,652 tons | 8,910 tons | 9,001 tons | 9,003 tons |
Total | 172,354 tons | 176,878 tons | 204,477 tons | 213,474 tons |
Employing FPCO Method Recycling which recycles used food trays and PET bottles into new containers has the effects of reducing waste and decreasing the amount of petrochemical-derived raw materials used. We will continue to expand the "circle of recycling" by recycling the used trays and PET bottles collected from supermarkets and other locations around Japan.
The Group will work on waste reduction by increasing the reuse of resources in business activities to reduce resources consumption and by conducting its independent circular recycling of terrestrial resources, such as used trays and PET bottles.
<Target Recycling Input Volume for the Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2031>
- Used food tray input volume: 13,500 tons / year (foam trays, transparent containers)
- Used PET bottle input volume: 70,000 tons / year
<Actual Amounts of Products Recycled>
FY2019 | FY2020 | FY2021 | FY2022 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Foam trays | 6,446 tons | 6,787 tons | 7,543 tons | 7,738 tons |
Transparent containers | 2,284 tons | 2,341 tons | 2,527 tons | 2,592 tons |
PET bottles | 65,500 tons | 73,500 tons | 75,000 tons | 73,000 tons |
To reduce the amount of raw materials used, in addition to revises production processes, we will continue to efforts to make products lighter and thinner and increase the percentage of products that use recycled materials.
<Product Weight Reduction Targets>
Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2031: Reduce weight per produce by 1.5% compared with FY2021 levels.
<Recycled Material Usage Rate>
Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2031: Raise Eco Tray products as a percentage of all general purpose PSP containers to 60%.
Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2031: Raise Eco APET products as a percentage of all APET products to 100%.
Based on the zero emission concept, we are curbing the generation of unneeded materials through revisions to production processes and engaging in the detailed sorting of waste.
<Zero Emission Targets>
Reduce the final disposal rate for waste to less than 1% by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2031. (Reference Year: Fiscal Year Ended March 31, 2021, 1.29%)

Scope of data collection: Production plants and recycling plants of the FPCO Group
No fines or penalties related to the environment were incurred during the fiscal years mentioned above.
We monitor emissions of dust and soot, which are environmental pollutants, and emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), NOX, SOX, BOD, COD and PRTR substances on a per-plant basis. For PRTR substances that exceed designated handling amounts, we submit notifications to prefectural governments where the operating sites are located.
At FPCO Gravure Co., Ltd., which prints to films, all chemical substances from exhaust gases with a high concentration of VOCs to low-concentration exhaust gases emitted from localized ventilation systems are 97.5% purified and deodorized through exhaust gas combustion processing (thermal storage combustion system).
For dust and soot, which are environmental pollutants, and emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), NOX, SOX, BOD, COD and PRTR substances, we will strive to reduce our environmental impact through a 10% emission reduction compared with FY2020 levels by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2031.
